Rachel McAdams (Wedding Crashers, Mean Girls) will star as Clare in New Line's adaptation of Audrey Niffenegger's best-selling novel The Time Traveler's Wife, which will be directed by Robert Schwentke (Flightplan). She will be featured alongside costar Eric Bana (Munich, The Hulk), who will play Henry De Tamble, a librarian at Chicago's Newberry Library who is afflicted with a gene that causes him to travel through time involuntarily. Henry and Clare first meet as a result of Henry's time travel, and although they realize they are soul mates, their relationship is strained by Henry's disorder. Brad Pitt's Plan B will produce. Bruce Joel Rubin (Ghost) is rewriting the script.
Time Traveler has been in development with New Line since the studio acquired the project in 2003, before the book became a best-seller. Coincidentally, Bana's latest project is being announced just one day after Marvel Studios confirmed that Edward Norton will play the Hulk, the character Bana portrayed in the disappointing 2003 Ang Lee film. Bana will next appear in Curtis Hanson's Lucky You opposite Drew Barrymore. He also recently completed filming on another adaptation of a best-selling novel, The Other Boleyn Girl, for Columbia Pictures.
