It's hard to be energetic at 9 a.m. without being completely annoying, but the Emmy-nominated star of Live With Regis and Kelly pulls it off. This week Ripa, 36, brings her comic caffeine to the TV Land Awards(April 22 at 9 p.m.) as host of the annual tribute to classic TV. ''Ordinarily, I'd never host an awards show. It seems like it would be nerve-racking,'' says the mom of three. ''But when I heard the Brady Bunch was going to be there, I said, 'I'm in.''' Just don't let Marcia steal the spotlight, Kelly!
For the awards show, Ripa re-created the Laverne & Shirley opening with the real Shirley, Cindy Williams
''I literally looked at her and said, 'Besides the birth of my children,
this is the most exciting moment of my life.' And she looked at me with
such pity.''
She's grateful for the outpouring of support for Regis
''He's doing well [Philbin underwent heart surgery March 14]. You know
what he means to you and I know what he means to me, but to see it
confirmed means a lot.''
The star of Hope & Faith (2003-06) doesn't rule out going back to prime
time...
''I would wait until my kids were in school for a full day. Part of it
was the magic of Ted McGinley and Faith Ford and me. We [still] speak to
each other four times a day. We're like co-dependent people.''
...but don't expect to see her on Dancing With the Stars
''The enjoyment for me is sitting on the sofa and looking at the costumes
and talking about how much better I could have been. If I'm out there,
proving myself wrong, then the fun is over.''
