What's it been like on set? Any surprises?
We have a BIG show. I mean, it's awesome. Action, and visual effects — that's something I'm used to from my days on Smallville. We're having a lot of fun. We're trying to do a big show in not a lot of time. Gina Holden [who plays Flash's companion/love interest Dale], who's amazing, is a godsend to this show. We really lucked out with our cast. Everyone's so enthusiastic.... Because we don't have the budget of a bigger show like Heroes, we have to have more ingenuity, because we don't have the money to fix it. I think that's what's been fantastic about the show, is the brilliance and creativity that everyone has shown...I mean, the set design! It looks incredible! And I know they did it on a shoestring budget.
What kind of sets are you talking about?
Massive sets for the planet of Mongo. They're absolutely incredible. I was just walking around with my jaw open, like Wow, these are artifacts for the show, and they're just huge! [Laughs] I don't know, I get excited by big sets!
When do you arrive on Planet Mongo?
Well, we end up there at the end of Part 1 of the premiere. But the thing is, we're able to come back and forth.
What's the mode of transport here?
It's the old wormhole. Flash's father was a scientist who was developing the technology. I thought he was lost in a fire, but it turns out he was sucked through this wormhole that he created. So now after 13 years, something came back through, and that something is not so nice, and it's looking for me.
So we're not gonna see anything resembling a spaceship.
Not at this point. But there is some pretty cool stuff on the planet Mongo, I have to say. I saw some early drawings of some things we have to battle. We're gonna have our hands full, that's for sure.
Creatures?
Creatures, ships, different types of ray guns...it's pretty intense. There's already been a probe that has gone through, and an android. I fight an android in my kitchen.
Little old you, regular guy Flash?
Yep. Imagine my surprise.
Was there a wormhole in the oven?
[Laughs] I can't give away the whole show!
