We waited all evening for the Tonys to throw a curveball, but the winners were named pretty much as predicted Sunday night. Spring Awakening and The Coast of Utopia dominated with Spring nabbing eight awards, including best musical, original score, choreography, book of a musical, and featured actor (John Gallagher, Jr.), and Coast taking home seven Tonys (the most ever for a play), including best play, featured actress (Jennifer Ehle), and featured actor (Billy Crudup). The one minor twist: underdog David Hyde Pierce besting favorite Raul Esparza for the best leading actor in a musical category.
