Director Sam Fuller's terse, black-and-white-in-every-sense Korean War tale centers on a small Army unit and its corporal (Richard Basehart), who proclaims ''I can take an order; I can't give one.'' A grimy tale set against blinding Korean snow, Fixed Bayonets! contrasts one of Fuller's recurring themes the testing of a man's courage (see The Steel Helmet) with lots of rowdy serviceman humor. Fuller's in-their-face camera shots are great, his fierce battle scenes all the more impressive for being filmed in low-budget close-ups. EXTRAS None.
