--
In the grayest corner of England, a reclusive foreigner (Sarah Polley) silently clocks in and out of a factory. She lives alone. She is hearing-impaired. And when she volunteers to care for a burn victim (Tim Robbins) on an oil rig, we learn that she was once a nurse. Polley conveys a quiet sorrow as a damaged, haunted woman in The Secret Life of Words, and in a key scene explaining her character's past, she is truly devastating. If only it didn't take a painstaking 80 minutes to get there. EXTRAS None. B
