LOCKE'S MISSING KEY On her second disc, the former Idol contestant shows she's open to different styles, but the performances don't stick

On her sophomore outing, American Idol survivor — and current Celebrity Fit Club contestant — Kimberley Locke is unshackled by the constraints of genre. Based on a True Story shows her as much at home with a cathartic country ballad (''Change'') as she is with a lurching rocker (''Any Which Way''), a reverent cover of a chestnut (''Band of Gold''), or an Oprah-ready anthem of gratitude (''Everyday Angels''). But stylistic variety means little if it isn't accompanied by memorable performances, and K. Lo fails to inject personality into these songs. C
