The title of Richard Thompson's latest CD (Sweet Warrior) neatly encapsulates the onetime Fairport Convention guitarist-singer-songwriter's enduring appeal. The guy's a six-string hero whose artistic sweep runs from plangent ballads (''She Sang Angels to Rest'') to fiery barnstormers (''I'll Never Give It Up'') to, well, a heap of engaging styles in between (check out the infectious ska shuffle ''Francesca''). That he also consistently imbues his compositions with lyrics and melodies that shimmer with humor and humanism is but the ambrosial icing. DOWNLOAD THIS: Dad's Gonna Kill Me
