How I Won 'Dancing With the Stars'

Apolo Ohno gives his own account of the road to glory

I thought I could do a couple hours of rehearsal a week and get by, but it became an obsession. I would review tapes of [past Dance favorites]Emmitt Smith, Mario Lopez, Drew Lachey. In the last weeks, I didn't train [in speed skating]. I said, ''If I make this final, I want to dedicate 100 percent to it.'' The mental break allowed me to overcome insecurities that came with being on a live show. It was a different feeling [than winning a gold medal] because that was my life; I'd sacrificed so much for that. But still, I'm a competitor — I love to win!
