SWEATHOG HEAVEN Kaplan and Co. earn honors on DVD

THE PREMISE: In Welcome Back, Kotter's first season, Gabe Kotter (comic Gabe Kaplan) returns to his Brooklyn high school to teach remedial social studies to the underachieving Sweathogs.

THE SEASON'S BEST EPISODE In ''Barbarino's Girl,'' ladies' man Vinnie Barbarino (John Travolta) is tutored by comeback queen Judy (Helaine Lembeck), and it's a match made in smartass heaven.

THE GRADE, THREE DECADES LATER... We dig the after-school-special-style morals. And Horshack's ''Oh, oh!'' and Barbarino's ''What?...Where?'' still kill. B+
