Memo to the X-Men obsessed: Quit rummaging through the film's recently released DVD for the 40 minutes allegedly chopped from the smash comic adaptation. Director Bryan Singer insists they never existed. ''I'm racking my brain trying ot think if there are whole chunks not here,'' says Singer. ''There aren't.'' Singer says the six outtakes, totaling 10 minutes on the DVD, were trimmed to keep the 104-minute film moving. One of those snippets offers what may be a clue to future X-movies: A reference made by Jean Grey (Famke Janssen) to her "expanding powers" hints at the comic's fabled ''Dark Phoenix'' story line. ''We decided it was another story for another film,'' says Singer. As for complaints abou the lack of commentary, Singer was in Europe during the DVD's production. Besides, he thought it was too soon: ''Maybe years down the line, it will be more valid, because then I'll have some more perspective.''
