A toxically fascinating true-crime/true-romance doc. In 1957, Linda Riss, a nice Jewish girl, fell for Burt Pugach, a nerd of a hustler, but when she broke free, he had lye thrown in her face, blinding her. Then he won her back. The film pierces tabloid reality in its anguished, bloody heart.
