The Oscar-nominated World War II drama hits all the familiar plot points, right down to the Saving Private Ryan-like finale. What's new here, though, is the band of brothers: North African colonial soldiers who fought and died for France. Their complex love for the ''motherland'' and fortitude in the face of racism lifts Days of Glory above its war-movie conventions.
