EEVIAC

EW's GRADE
A-

This Atlanta quartet may traffic in space-age self-mythology, but its musical gestalt is firmly rooted in the surf music of the mid-'60s, with an occasional nod to new-wave velocity and sine-wave skronk. If the Ventures had grown up listening to the B-52's instead of Hank Marvin, they might have sounded like Man or Astro-man? In EEVIAC, the band cooks up more variations on its tremolo-drenched instrumental set pieces, oscillating between hyperspeed wipeouts and electro-pop nuttiness. A-
