Take Your Shoes Off

EW's GRADE
B

On his 11th album, the blues/soulman crooner tips the balance to the '60s Hi/Stax sound. Funky ''24-7 Man'' is a dirty-dancing gem, and the Al Green-channeling ''Love Gone to Waste'' makes you want to dive into those Willie Mitchell-produced horns. Sure, Robert Cray doesn't sound all that anguished on the heartache-got-me tracks in Take Your Shoes Off, but overall his Southern soul is winning. B
