Remove the matricide and adolescent romance from Heavenly Creatures and you get Bridge to Terabithia, taken from the kids' novel about two artsy, outcast youths who imagine a Narnia-lite wonderland in the woods. Despite his eye for grubby teenage detail and fantastic F/X, director/animation guru Gabor Csupo (Rugrats) elicits only serviceable performances from his actors. The third-act tragedy feels forced, but you'll be bawling anyway. EXTRAS Educators discuss the book and movie. Yep: Terabithia is an after-school special writ large. B
