Angelina Jolie
Mother Superior
WHY HER After raiding all those tombs, adopting all those kids (and acquiring one the old-fashioned way), serving as a U.N. ambassador, and shacking up with some guy named Brad, Jolie is finally getting back to the thing she does best: acting. Playing Mariane Pearl, widow of Daniel Pearl, the Wall Street Journal reporter who was slain in Pakistan in 2002, she's taking on her most demanding role since the one that won her an Oscar seven years ago (for Girl, Interrupted). ''I don't think there was a day on the set I was confident of what I was doing,'' she confesses about A Mighty Heart's shoot. ''But I knew my heart was in the right place.''
NEXT Another serious role, voicing a monster's mom in Robert Zemeckis' CG adaptation of Beowulf, and the comic-book adaptation Wanted.
