WHY THEM A frakload went down in Battlestar Galatica's revelatory third season, but no one endured more than these two. Tigh (Hogan) lost an eye and killed his Cylon-collaborating wife, only to discover that — oops! — he's a toaster too. And Starbuck (Sackhoff ), well, she died — only to pop up in a Viper next to Apollo's in the season finale, causing fanboys everywhere to blast on their blogs...
SERIOUSLY, STARBUCK, WHAT ARE YOU? ''I have no idea what she is,'' says Sackhoff, ''or if I'm alive or if I'm dead.'' Maybe Starbuck is merely a figment of Apollo's imagination? ''If I am, I'm a figment of everyone's imagination.'' Maybe Starbuck is the last unknown Cylon? Sackhoff isn't so sure: ''I think there are better choices out there, to be honest. Even if she was, I don't think she'd ever believe it.'' There's a lot of that going around. ''Tigh's not convinced he's a Cylon,'' says Hogan. ''And Hogan's not convinced he's a Cylon.''
THE END (SNIFF) Battlestar's fourth season, launching in early 2008, will be its last. ''I didn't know until my mom called me and told me it was on the Internet,'' chuckles Sackhoff. Both actors say the series' end has been on-set scuttlebutt for some time. ''Who knows? I wouldn't be surprised if in a couple years there's a movie-of-the-week kind of thing,'' says Hogan. ''Unless they're going to blow us all up at the end!''
NEXT Sackhoff scored a recurring role on NBC's fall series Bionic Woman as a cyborg gal. Hogan, along with several other Battlestar alumni, will be in the pilot, though, as Sackhoff points out, ''I'm the only one who had to audition for the damn thing!'' ''Well, yeah,'' answers Hogan. ''Once Sackhoff was in there, they knew they needed someone to calm her down.''
I'LL RETIRE WHEN... Hogan: ''I'm dead.'' Sackhoff: ''I have enough money to move to an island and raise my babies running around naked on the beach.''
