This slim coming-of-age tale about a teen (Grint) torn between his shrewish mother (Linney) and the flamboyant actress he works for (Walters) has a few moments of charm, as when Walters' grande dame is mistaken for God during a Bible pageant. But the talented cast seems wasted on clunky plot twists (an insane transvestite swoops in for the finale) and one-note characters. EXTRAS In a making-of Driving Lessons, Walters Grint's mum in the Harry Potter movies comments on the young actor's own coming-of-age: ''Those biceps! The girls will be going mad!'' C
