It shouldn't have taken four writers to pen this cloying story of underdog African-American swimmers, but apparently, it takes that many to watch Hoosiers, memorize Remember the Titans, study Coach Carter, and deconstruct Glory Road. Only Howard's shimmering intensity, as real-life Philly swim coach Jim Ellis, keeps Pride from sinking to the bottom of the pool. After Rocky Balboa and Invincible, the sports flick needs CPR.
