A treacly story of acceptance, forgiveness, and the like, Sweet Land stars Elizabeth Reaser as a German mail- order bride who arrives in a Norwegian-immigrant village in 1920s Minnesota, only to be shunned by the preacher (John Heard). The part about her being a Teutonic socialist (read: devious!) got lost in translation when her marriage to Olaf (Tim Guinee) was arranged. And so she must prove herself worthy which she does, naturally, by helping Olaf harvest hay. EXTRAS Commentary by director Ali Selim, Reaser, and others, plus a basic making-of. C+
