Before Transformers hit the screen, Hollywood was prepping other blasts from the past. Assuming that the new movie doesn't fade at the box office, the future looks promising for more icons you may remember from your childhood.
ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS
Back in a CGI/live-action film, due Dec. 14. Producer Ross Bagdasarian
Jr.: ''It's about how David (Jason Lee), who dreams of being a hip
songwriter, comes to live with three singing chipmunks.''
HE-MAN AND THE MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE
Joel Silver and Warner Bros. are reviving Prince Adam and his alter ego
for a ''grittier'' live-action film. Screenwriter Justin Marks says it's
not hokey: ''We consider it myth.''
A CGI remake will hew close to the original cartoon: After planet Thundera is destroyed, the humanoid cats find a home on Third Earth, where evil Mumm-Ra resides. Warner Bros. has optioned a script.
G.I. JOE
It's too soon to reveal the script's plot, but Lorenzo di Bonaventura
says it will reflect a 21st-century sensibility. The Transformers producer has been eyeing the comics and says it ''will stay true to the
basic tenets.''
THE SMURFS
At least 256 episodes of the series have aired across the world, so this
new take in the works could be a true-blue idea for Paramount. While a
script is being penned, we'd like to make a request: More Smurfettes!
