Hairspray (2007)

John Travolta scats, Michelle Pfeiffer purrs, and Queen Latifah rocks on Hairspray, this slick retread of the 2002 Broadway hit. The sock-hop-ready songs remain ridiculously catchy (try to stop humming ''You Can't Stop the Beat''), and Hairspray-heads will dig the cut-from-the-film ''Mama, I'm a Big Girl Now,'' featuring a trio of Tracy Turnblads — the movie's Nikki Blonsky, Broadway's Marissa Jaret Winokur, and Ricki Lake, from John Waters' 1988 flick — and a campy cameo from stage star/Travolta predecessor Harvey Fierstein.
