2008 Emmy Awards

All the buzz about TV's big night

Emmy threw us some curves at its 2007 awards ceremony, including a lawyer getting the drop on Tony Soprano (James Spader claiming the Lead Actor in a Drama Series award instead of James Gandolfini); Ricky Gervais having a far better awards night than his Extras character did at the BAFTAs; and Jaime Pressly becoming the Duchess of Earl. Less surprising: A farewell salute to The Sopranos with a Best Drama Series win, and the Arrested Development Memorial Prize, a.k.a., a Best Comedy Series nod to the low-rated 30 Rock. Overall, the voters spread their love around; scan the list below, and you'll see as many different series names as there are categories (sorry, fans of The Office, Desperate Housewives, and Heroes — remember, it's an honor just to be nominated...). The list below includes the acting and overall excellence awards handed out during the primetime broadcast (for writing, directing, and other 2007 Emmy awards, follow the link at the bottom).
