''The Godfather gave me a career, it gave me every opportunity that you can have,'' says the actor, 67, whose lesser-known work can be seen in the recently released DVD set Pacino: An Actor's Vision. ''Everything around me changed,'' he recalls of the Coppola classic's debut when he was 31. ''I said, 'What's going on?' and as Lee Strasberg the great acting teacher, and my friend said to me, 'Darling, you simply have to adjust.' It only took me 10 years, but I did adjust. Finally.''
