The '80s-set British comedy Starter for 10 follows university student Brian (The Last King of Scotland's James McAvoy) as he tries to sort out his love life and score a spot on the school quiz team. McAvoy is an immensely appealing actor — the scene where Brian recalls his late father is a particular heartbreaker. But charm alone can't distract from the usual campus shtick (the battle with a snobby classmate, the first taste of marijuana). The clichés feel as overused as the '80s soundtrack. EXTRAS A dull making-of and pop-up IDs for all those Cure songs. B-
