Fractured Mindz (2007)

Three years after suffering a stroke, Kinks guitarist Dave Davies makes a welcome return with this loose, unpolished, and intriguing hodgepodge of musical styles. At its best, Fractured Mindz sounds like a modest, homespun take on his band's best work (''Remember Who You Are,'' ''God in My Brain''). Less successful, however, are his attempts to stretch, as with the soulless blues tune ''Come to the River'' and the seven-minute-plus title track, an electronic/rock hybrid that sounds about as fresh as that cheesy spelling of minds implies.
