LAKE OF FIRE
Almost a decade after Tony Kaye alienated Hollywood with what the director now admits were egocentric antics (slamming New Line in Variety, for instance, over his skinhead drama American History X), it might seem strange that his comeback is based on such a polarizing subject: abortion. Shot in black and white, this nonpartisan film represents 17 years of gathered material. ''I was particularly hit by the issue when I came to America in 1990,'' says Kaye. ''It's beyond controversial. So I thought I'd examine exactly what everyone was saying about it.'' Now we can see what he's discovered.
