THE ORPHANAGE
After a mother (The Sea Inside's Belén Rueda) moves her family back to the Spanish orphanage where she grew up happily, her young son develops an unnerving coterie of imaginary friends and then disappears. ''I had in mind Close Encounters of the Third Kind, exchanging the aliens for ghosts,'' says Juan Antonio Bayona, who made his feature debut under the guiding hand of producer Guillermo del Toro (Pan's Labyrinth). Bring on the mashed potatoes.
