At times, it's like a deluxe episode of H.R. Pufnstuf; at others, it's the closest the movies have come in a while to the knowing fairy-tale enchantment of The Princess Bride. With Claire Danes, Michelle Pfeiffer (ripely evil), and Robert De Niro as a pirate with a few mincing surprises.
