As far as current Australian bands go, Melbourne's Augie March is that country's great pop-rock hope. At the group's helm is part-time poet, full-time lyricist Glenn Richards, whose smooth, emotive vocals mingle with soaring melodies that'd make Paul McCartney proud and have earned Richards comparisons to Nick Drake and Conor Oberst. All deserved, considering the lush beauty of Augie's understated, folky third album (Moo, You Bloody Choir), in which heartache and hopelessness never seemed so enticing. A-
