Is Britney really going to release an album this year?
When a pair of alleged new songs from Britney Spears leaked online during the week of Aug. 20, speculation grew that her long-promised fifth studio album could finally be nearing completion. A rep for Spears' label, Jive, did not return calls for comment, but insiders say Spears does have a new single that may drop as soon as next week. Good news for fans: It's not the odd, somewhat dirgelike ballad that surfaced on the Internet Aug. 23. A source says it's an up-tempo club cut produced by Timbaland protégé Nate ''Danjahandz'' Hills: ''It's like when Justin came back she's got a whole new sound.'' Of course, we've heard that line before. What we do know for sure is that despite frequent club outings, Spears has found time to work with producers including J.R. Rotem (Sean Kingston) and the Neptunes' Pharrell Williams. So while there's still no official release date, another source close to the singer says to expect an album this fall: ''She has more than enough material.''
