Legal Briefs: 'Kid Nation'

What did the parents sign their kids up for?

Read excerpts from the contract, which the New Mexico attorney general's office gave to EW:

''I understand that the Program may take place in inherently dangerous travel areas that may expose the Minor and other participants to a variety of unmarked and uncontrolled hazards and conditions that may cause the Minor serious bodily injury, illness or death, including without limitation...exposure to extremes of heat and cold; crime;...falling rocks and objects;...encounters with wild or domesticated animals;...encounters with dangerous flora or fauna;...loss of orientation (getting lost) in primitive areas...''

''I further represent that the Minor is able to walk, run, jump, hop, skip, crawl, swim, climb, ride a bicycle, and otherwise use his or her arms, legs and body...''

''I understand that if the Minor chooses to enter into an intimate relationship of any nature with another participant... I hereby assume any and all risks that may be associated with any relationship, including...emotional distress, illness, sexually transmitted diseases, HIV, and pregnancy, if applicable.''
