By the time Stax staged this 1972 Los Angeles concert in front of more than 100,000 fans, the famed soul label was well past its artistic prime. But there are still plenty of worthy moments on the three-disc boxed set (Wattstax), an expansion of the '72 double live album and its '73 follow-up. A palpable energy elevates many of the performances, including Louise McCord's funk-gospel workout ''Better Get a Move On,'' Stax veteran William Bell's sweet ''I Forgot to Be Your Lover,'' and Johnnie Taylor's intense, eight-minute ''Steal Away.''
