LEE PACE, CHI McBRIDE, AND ELLEN GREENE
Scott Garfield

8-9 PM · ABC · Debuts Oct. 3

CONCEPT Young pie-maker Ned (Wonderfalls' Lee Pace) can bring the dead back to life with a touch — and send them right back to the grave with a second one.

THE SCOOP Created by Bryan Fuller (Heroes) and directed by Barry Sonnenfeld (Men in Black), Daisies has Sonnenfeld's trademark cartoon/fairy tale aesthetic. At its heart, the series is a detective story: Ned helps a PI (The Nine's Chi McBride) solve crimes by reviving the murder victims and asking who offed them. Things get tricky when Ned brings his childhood crush, Chuck (Anna Friel), back from the dead and must resist touching her again. Sounds challenging to pull off, but Pace offers this assessment of Fuller: ''He has a real ear for dialogue and what's funny and absurd and palatable. And he's got balls.''

BOTTOM LINE And he's also got the most divisive new drama on TV, if the debate among EW staffers is any indication: Daisies is either a charming bit of whimsy or too precious for its own good.
