Upon discovering he's terminally ill with cancer, Griffin (Dermot Mulroney) falls in love with the icy Phoenix (Amanda Peet), who if you can believe it is also dying of cancer. If it sounds like a made-for-TV movie, it practically is: After playing the 2006 Toronto Film Festival, Griffin & Phoenix skipped theaters and premiered on Lifetime last fall. With its tear-jerking soundtrack and treacly script, this remake of the 1976 Peter Falk -- Jill Clayburgh vehicle relies on the premise that do-before-you-die activities constitute reality. At least Mulroney and Peet are convincingly sorrowful. EXTRAS None. C
