However big a treat it is to see Julie Christie — deep, sexy and full of feeling — hold the center of a film, writer-director Sarah Polley is the real star here. The actress, who adapted Alice Munro's short story about a woman fading into Alzheimer's and the husband (Gordon Pinsent) struggling to let her go, has produced a remarkably sophisticated piece about a subject that could lend itself to schmaltzy hanky-waving. EXTRAS What a shame, then, that Polley is absent from the feature commentary. Christie, charming and vaguely disinterested, picks up the slack. B+
