For a solo debut, this disc sure is crowded with other names. Stars like
Elton John, Rufus Wainwright, and k.d. lang join Heart's howling
frontwoman on duet duty, while covers of well-known oldies make up most
of the track list. Thankfully, Ann Wilson's own vocals have grown more
passionate over the years, and she makes certain the spotlight never
strays far from her on Hope & Glory. The best songs play up her flair for melodrama with
roiling Middle Eastern string sections. We'll just ignore that snoozy
bluegrass take on ''Bad Moon Rising.'' B+
