LOVE IT
As a Britney Spears fan, I was nervous about her comeback single, ''Gimme
More.'' Would it be an ode to Trident White gum? A ballad about Cheetos?
So what a surprise to hear a sexy, beat-heavy track that feels like a
worthy successor to ''I'm a Slave 4 U'' (and is far better than those two
unofficial leaked ''singles''). The vocals are breathy but confident, the
hook is instantly catchy, and the production makes me want to drop
everything and hit the dance floor. Maybe all that clubbing of hers was
actually research. TS
LOATHE IT
While ''It's Britney, bitch!'' is possibly the greatest line the singer's
ever uttered, ''Gimme More'' quickly wimps out. This would have been the
perfect time for an ironic comeback ditty in which Spears playfully
admits she momentarily lost the plot. Instead, she's settled for
clueless petulance, a Busta Rhymes-jacking hook, and come-hither vocals
that sound like she stole T-Pain's decoder and ran into a cave.
(Unfortunately, I now know what ''sex yodeling'' is.) Please excuse me
while I blast K-Fed's ''PopoZão'' in protest. CS
