Rated: PG-13; Genres: Drama, Romance; With: Val Kilmer and Mira Sorvino

Can go-getting New York architect Amy (Sorvino) find lasting love with New Agey, blind Virgil (Kilmer)? Maybe not, after an experimental operation that promises to restore his sight. Yet as Virgil staggers through a visually overwhelming world, director Irwin Winkler (Night and the City) short-shrifts the psychological implications and settles for an ultimately upbeat love story. It works only because Kilmer and Sorvino play the romance with such feeling, but from what we glimpse of underutilized supporting characters — like Kelly McGillis as Virgil's overprotective sister — At First Sight should have gazed more deeply.
