Maynard & Jennica (2007)

EW's GRADE
B+

Details Release Date: Sep 18, 2007; Writer: Rudolph Delson; Genres: Fiction, Humor; Publisher: Houghton Mifflin

This charmer centers on two neurotic New Yorkers (is there any other kind?) who meet on the subway. Maynard makes art films, a career for ''lazy fools,'' says his grandmother. Jennica works on Wall Street and believes everything happens for a reason - including her meeting Maynard on the train while shopping for a cat to get rid of the mouse in her apartment. Maynard, Jennica, and 33 other lovable characters all narrate Maynard & Jennica, a setup that's less daunting than it sounds. Rudolph Delson's funny, confessional-style novel recalls When Harry Met Sally... No wonder Scott Rudin already acquired the film rights. B+
