In his commentary, director Michael Caton-Jones compares the relentless pace of his devastating Rwandan genocide drama to the sinking of the Titanic. The analogy proves apt as the film vividly recounts the country's 1994 plunge into chaos. Based on true events, Beyond the Gates follows a priest (a magnificent John Hurt) and a teacher (Hugh Dancy) whose school becomes a haven for Tutsi fleeing the massacre. EXTRAS There's also a compelling commentary with producer David Belton, an ex-BBC cameraman whose experiences informed some of Gates' more horrifying scenes. B+
