(Office writer/executive producer)
On his problem with the Emmys:
Yes, I enjoyed winning [the award for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series]. Was it worth all the distraction from our primary focus of making the show? I don't know. That is perhaps something a workaholic should work on with a therapist. I'm disappointed our cast didn't win any; I think they did amazing work, funny and emotional and subtle. The actors' and writers' guilds have awards for best ensemble cast and best writing staffs, and I like those they acknowledge the reality that TV production is a team sport. They were quick on the trigger with the play-off music; I didn't finish my speech at all. It's hard to do anything involving any attitude or acting when the music is playing, so I bailed on the end. I wanted to thank my father and my son who were there that night, and both big comedy influences on me. I had worked a nice speech around my wife if we had won Best Comedy show, but I didn't get to that either. I would have liked to have won Best Comedy, so the other producers could share the Emmy wealth, but if it couldn't be us, I was very pleased to see 30 Rock get it, since I think that's a funny show. I hope more people check out 30 Rock because of the award. Considering that we'll be on opposite Grey's Anatomy and CSI, we could use a good lead-in.
