'City' Girls on Film

It's week one on the set of the Sex and the City movie, and already a fight is breaking out. On the Upper East Side of Manhattan, a young, dark-haired woman is screaming at her male companion: ''Go back to your wife. How can you do that to me? You're married?!?'' As she berates the cheating SOB, another woman with a bit more ''life experience'' notices the melee and glances back, but decides to move on. For once, Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) is just the witness to a public verbal smackdown instead of a participant; as she might type on her laptop, I couldn't help but wonder: Do we ever grow up — or just grow older?

New Line's Sex and the City: The Movie is shooting all over town in preparation for its release on May 30, 2008, and though the set is closed, EW dispatched some reporters to observe from the sidelines. Three years after the HBO series' finale, the ladies haven't abandoned their gals-about-town lifestyle: EW caught Carrie, Samantha (Kim Cattrall), Charlotte (Kristin Davis), and Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) meeting for lunch outside of Christie's Auction House, while a building across from a Ferrari dealership on Park Avenue was transformed (not too successfully) into a nightclub.

Yeah, yeah, yeah — let's get to the good stuff: What are they wearing? Bright colors, such as a canary blazer for Samantha, dominate along with floral prints. Designer Patricia Field, who outfitted the quartet during Sex's six years, seems to be sticking with her strategy of shock and awe. Carrie carries a brown spotted, feathered purse that no animal — fake or real — deserves to die for, but the shimmery silver mini we saw her working was killer.
