+ Brad Pitt will step into the ring alongside Mark Wahlberg as famed
Boston slugger Dicky Eklund in the boxing drama The Fighter. (Matt Damon
was originally cast but bowed out due to scheduling conflicts.)
Recasting with Pitt, says producer Todd Lieberman, was easy: ''He's got
the great mix of boyish charm and rugged manliness.''
+ The Kingdom star Jennifer Garner is going from current events to classic lit for her next role as Matthew McConaughey's love interest in Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, a rom-com riff on Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol. ''She's so sharp-witted, deadpan, and level-headed,'' gushes director Mark Waters (Mean Girls) of Garner. ''She's the only one who's able to call McConaughey's character on his BS and see him as he truly is.''
+ Denzel Washington and director Tony Scott, who previously collaborated on Déjè Vu and Crimson Tide, will reteam for a modern-day remake of the 1974 NYC subway-hijacking thriller The Taking of Pelham One Two Three.
