Five cities, five cabdrivers, five poker-faced Jim Jarmusch tales of hilarity and woe. ''I was playing around with the idea of synchronicity, of things happening at the same time on the planet,'' says the director in an audio-only featurette where he answers questions from fans. All the characters are worthwhile, but Armin Mueller-Stahl's New York cabbie — an East German ex-circus clown bumbling through his first day on the job — is unforgettable, and Roberto Benigni is a riot as a motormouthed Italian whose confession proves fatal to the priest in the backseat.
