Hell hath no fury like a liberal Brit scorned. Robert Harris, a one-time backer of Tony Blair, depicts unpopular former British PM Tony...I mean, Adam Lang, who faces a war-crime investigation for his actions in the war on terror. Our hero is a ghostwriter of celeb tell-alls hired to complete Lang's memoir after the mysterious death of the previous ghost. Before you can say ''waterboarding,'' he stumbles upon incriminating documents and finds himself in jeopardy. Harris' final twist is frankly silly, the too-extreme extension of his palpable outrage at Blair; thankfully, though, his wit and command of suspense remain mostly intact in The Ghost. B+
