Details Release Date: Oct 30, 2007; Lead Performance: Avenged Sevenfold; Genre: Rock

How much more metal could this SoCal outfit be? None. None more metal. Between the biblical name (a reference to God's punishment of Cain), kooky aliases (on lead guitar, Synsyster Gates! On rhythm, Zacky Vengeance!), and relentless shredding, their aim is unmistakable...if slightly silly. Still, on this fourth LP, Avenged Sevenfold, they're supermelodic, which may annoy hard-rock purists. But vocalist M. Shadows growl-howls excellently, and the hooky musicianship (check out ''Almost Easy'') is unimpeachable. Devil-horn powers, activate! B
