In Sweetheart Deal, her fourth outing, neurotic Florida lawyer Lilly Cleary returns to her backwoods hometown of Bugfest, Georgia, to wring wacky chick lit-style adventures out of a mystery. Claire Matturro's list-making, health-food-obsessed — and, natch, oh-so-spunky — heroine comes to the rescue when her agoraphobic mother up and shoots someone, then lands in the hospital drugged silent and unable to explain the murder she supposedly committed. Lots of complications ensue, from an amorous hospital administrator to an illegal exotic meat-trade operation. But it all turns out neatly in the end — so if you like your lawyers quirky and your mysteries pat, Bugfest is your kinda place. C+
