It lives up to its name, this CD. Take the title track, Taking Chances, which finds Celine Dion
singing in a voice so unrecognizably young and cracked, I thought it
must be a duet and wondered when her part would kick in. That's one of
several satisfying slices of, um, girl pop here. Beware, though, of
big-name producer-writers (Linda Perry, Ben Moody, Ne-Yo) dragging her
further outside her easy-listening ghetto. It's cool that Dion can mimic
everyone from Shakira to Sam Phillips...but her appalling Janis Joplin
impression is a Chance too far.
